BAY/POND BEACHES
CRITICAL PLANNING COMMITTEE
Thursday, June 26, 2008
Present: Loretta Neilsen, Ed Sedloch, Gerry Mistretta, Joe Mistretta, Beverly Fallstrom, Joan Sullivan
The current status of the Critical Planning Committee was discussed.
Recent improvements were noted. The staircase at Thumpertown has been extensively repaired. The new stairs will be constructed after Labor Day. There are fences installed to contain the poison ivy at Wiley Park and the new floats have been installed. New and larger signs at each beach are to be erected shortly.
Coastal Engineering & Planning of Florida will do a presentation at the town hall on coastal erosion in Eastham and possible remedies on Wednesday, July 9th. The Eastham Forum is cosponsoring this program and will put an ad in the Cape Codder to that effect.
Several committee members noted that when purchasing beach stickers this year no information was available at the Natural Resource Office on Eastham parking spaces at Nauset Light and Coast Guard beaches. The Committee voted to write a letter to the Selectmen stating that this situation was a disservice to the town taxpayers. This is only the third year this spots have been available and many taxpayers, particularly new residents, are not aware of this availability.
Regarding the staircase at Thumpertown beach, the Committee voted to request specific information from the town administration regarding the time, date and contractor for the construction.
The Committee plans to work on a blueprint for the future of our beaches.
Committee members will do 2 beach surveys, one on or before July 1st and the second on July 17th. Signs, sand conditions, litter, rest rooms, bike racks, etc. will be noted.
The Committee will meet on Tuesday, July 8 at 10 am to discuss the results of our first survey.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
